Searingtown, New York

Searingtown, New York is located on the Western end of Long Island in Nassau county. The neighborhood consists of all land that's just under one square mile in total area. The area is a CDP or Census designated place as it is not incorporated, but as of 2000, has a little over 5,000 people residing there. The town receives its name from the Searing Family that settled there.

The median income within Searingtown is significantly higher than its neighbors. According to Census surveys from 2006 through 2009, the median income for Searingtown residents was over $125,000 which is well above the Nassau county median of $94,861. As a comparison, the US average overall is said to be $52,668. This higher income may be as a result of a great amount of the people residing in Searingtown hold college degrees of a bachelor level or higher.

Searingtown can be a great place to start a family. Families make up 90% of the population in this town, which is a considerably high percentage compared to the rest of New York. Within Searingtown are several different schools, which is surprising for such a small area. It means that it makes it safer for children to get to the schools and reduces the amount of busing to get children into another school district.

Since the area of Searingtown is small, it also means that most people work elsewhere. On average, 81% of the people who live within Searingtown commute to another place for work. The people of Searingtown also have a high commitment towards education, which will explain the slightly higher amount of taxes that its residents pay. As for homes, most are owner-owned and there are a variety of different kinds of homes within the town.

Searingtown is a beautiful town that offers many different things to its residents. The median age of the people living there is 42.3. It has a diverse ethnic makeup that is across the board and there are many small businesses. It is conveniently located on the Island, making it just a short drive to the Hamptons. There is also the ability to quickly drive to Orient Point, where you can take a long weekend to Connecticut via ferry.

There is much that is close to Searingtown. It is part of Roslyn and is not far from Mineola and North Hempstead. Being this close to other great towns is a benefit because it makes it easy to live in a lesser populated area with the ease of being able to work (and shop) in many nearby towns.

Residents and visitors of Searingtown, New York will be able to easily make this town home. It is quiet enough from major cities, but close enough for work or for pleasure. Public transportation is available, as well, so should a person not have a car, it is still possible to be able to get to other areas quite easily. Searingtown is just one of the many neighborhoods of Long Island but allows for a smaller comfort.
